For a residential bungalow in Ahmedabad, occupying 6,000 SFT., we undertook a project with both, colonial and minimalistic ambitions. The furniture layout of the home was designed with the perspective of freeness of movement with easy and focused transitions between spaces. Taking a cue from the British Raj period, British Colonial forms interacted with locally available materials to suit the city’s climatic needs. A vernacular approach was undertaken from the perspective of both, incorporating the skills of local craftsmen and obtaining sustainably sourced material. A landscape of Mughal style was assumed in a few pockets along with a tropical influence and modern breaks.
